Nourishmentality
A mentality of nourishing the mind, the body, and the soul
For the past year and a half, I have been interested in learning about many different modalities for healing and methods of understanding one's true self and achieving one's potential. As I researched and tried out different things, I recognized that I wasn't necessarily seeking after healing, but rather was seeking consistent nourishment: nourishment to my mind, body, and soul. I wanted to maintain a level of health that made me feel emotionally temperate, physically well, and spiritually in tune. I realized I was growing into a mentality of nourishment of self.

The term "nourishmentality" I thought of in one of those moments between waking and sleeping states. I had been brainstorming names to call my blog and the word nourishmentality came to me. It stuck in my mind as something very important. Too important, in fact, to use as my Instagram account name or blog domain name. It occurred to me that nourishmentality wasn't who I was, but rather was my focus. As such, I created the hashtag, nourishmentality as a way to categorize what my unique focus would be.

I believe a nourishmentality to be the key to a balanced life. Our whole lives, we should be striving to nourish ourselves. The word "nourish" means to sustain, provide for, tend to. It means to provide with substances necessary for health, growth, and good condition. When we have a nourishmentality, it means to provide our heart, our mind, and our body with the "substances necessary for health, growth, and good condition." The substances that can evoke a nourishmentality might be different for everyone. It could be religious faith, it could be meditation, it could mean acupuncture, it could mean higher education, it could mean a fulfilling career, it could mean volunteer work. It means providing your mind, body, and soul with stimulation and love and healing.

For me, I find my personal nourishmentality from many different sources: healthy eating, inspirational reading, the power of positivity, emotional releasing, facial recognition, guided imagery, colon therapy, yoga, support of local businesses, and connections with others. The beautiful thing about having a nourishmentality is that it is not something one attains and then never does again. It is a mentality--a state of mind, a way of thinking, a paradigm shift. Having a nourishmentality is more than working towards a goal and more than finding healing, it is simply a way of living!
