Trendy French Toast

French toast is such a simple thing to make, yet such a delicious breakfast! I always get excited when I go to a restaurant and they have some crazy artisan-style french toast! So I decided to make my own! I decided to be extra artisan and trendy by adding cardamom to them, too. I must say, most of my life, I've taken pride in marching to the beat of my own drum and not paying attention to trends or fads, but lately, I've been choosing to notice and appreciate them. And look at me now! Incorporating one into my breakfast! Oh, how I've turned over a new leaf!
First thing's first: trendy artisan bread! This gorgeous loaf is from Ken's Bakery, which--lucky me!--is right around the corner from my apartment! I like slicing the bread in thicker slices so I can actually get the taste of the yummy homemade bread.

Next: Make the batter. Along with two eggs and milk, I always add in a dash of vanilla. Whip those together with a fork and then I added cinnamon and cardamom. When I dip the bread in here, I let the bread soak up the stuff so it will be nice and moist.

Then, I stick each piece of eggy soaked bread onto the pan/skillet and let it cook until golden brown on each side. In England, they call French Toast "eggy bread" I think. After making my french toast this time, I know why! I flipped my toast over and it looked like it was a piece of toast with a fried egg on the side! Don't quite know what happened there, but I got a kick out of it, and it tasted good all the same, so what does it matter?

After all this, it's the toppings that really make it totally kick-butt! I put on all sorts of things to fancy up the flavor: raspberries, coconut peanut butter, pecans, syrup, chia seeds, more cinnamon and cardamom. Yum!

Last but not least, before I dig in, I make the presentation really nice! It's so fun to take pictures of your food! Not to mention, eating food when it looks pretty makes your food taste better, I'm convinced.

I'm very willing to say that my trendy french toast turned out trendy indeed and rather fantastic. Turning something so simple into something artisan just takes a couple random ingredients thrown in, interesting toppings, and a pretty presentation. Looking forward to making my next trendy meal!
