Look Up

Hands in pockets, head down, kicking pebbles. So often I find myself looking down at the steps ahead of me instead of taking a moment to stop and look up.

Whether you believe in God, Allah, the Creator, Source, or any other version of a greater power, looking up and acknowledging that this world is bigger than you really puts things into perspective.

Looking up reminds me that I am just a speck on this planet. And this planet is a speck in our galaxy. And our galaxy is a speck in the universe. Think about it: cars we drive, the houses we live in, even the tallest building in the world are absolutely minute in the grand scheme of things.

Being reminded of this, however, does not discourage me. I've known people who are aware of their smallness and it frightens them. To think of how small we are is tempting to deduce that this fact means that we are insignificant..., but this is simply not the case. We mean a whole lot to the Divine, in whatever form that looks like for you.

The universe is conspiring for our good because something greater cares about us. I am exactly where I am in life because I am being watched out for, having certain things placed in my path, and being led to good lessons and experiences.

When I look up at the clouds or the treetops, I am reminded that this world is a whole lot bigger than me, but that in my smallness, I have been led to where I am in life because Someone who cares sees the greater picture.
